It was off to Laguna Seca this weekend to watch Scott McClenahan putt around the track. A beautiful day Saturday. Me and the boys (Nick and Devin) wandered around the paddock looking for Scotty's camp but didn't find it. We did catch him out on the track. We watched him gettin' the tail out in turn 3 in his georgeous 1930 Alfa 6C 1750. It looked cool! Now that is what I call "Low speed fun"! :thumbup

Here is Scotty at speed (?)

Checkin the charts from last year I saw Scott finished in third, but this year I had him down in 10th. What happened?

Chaparral was the featured marque at the track. Here is the famous 2J "Vacuum cleaner" race car. It has a 2 stroke motor on the back sucking the car down on the ground! Imagine the cornering forces!

Pebble Beach the next day was also wonderful. Alfa Romeo was the featured marque. I literally bumped into Jay Leno! I turned around and walked right into him. I said "Hello Jay!" and he looked at me and my 2 monkeys and said "Ohh, hello boys." I wanted to compliment him on his great column in Octane magazine, but all I could think was "WOW! Look at that chin!"

Here is a Bizzarini Spider prototype...for sale for a meager $750,000!!

Hey Mark!

I'm bummed I missed you! We were at the end of the row between Turns 10 and 11 inline from Coker Tire display. Regarding the race, I drove down Thursday but the RF brake was dragging so we pulled off the drum to fix and balance the brakes on Friday, missed the 8:45 qualifying and was subsequently gridded in last place (27th?) for the race. Half the race was under yellow, but I managed to get to 8th place by the finish. The drive home up Hwy 1 was great.

Next year we should coordinate more diligently as the event is a blast and I love having friends hang-out!

Cheers!

Scott, I had no idea your Alfa was so old. What a beautiful, interesting car. I always enjoy watching the pre-war cars on the track, you can almost feel the dawn of high-performance automobiles. It's particularly fun when a mechanic rides on board, old-school style, and waves to the crowd on every lap...

Mark: your pics of the interesting cars from the race and Pebbles are fantastic. They sure don't make 'em like they used to.

Vicki and I are marking our calendars and won't miss the races next year!

Maybe this is a stupid question... but why are all the steering wheels on the other side?

Hmmmm.....good question. I would say that they built were for Japan, UK or Austarilia, but these cars (Alfas, Bizzarrini) were for Europe, so I'm stumped. I guess you can chalk it up to "Prototype-itis" :idunno

Scotty are you doing any other vintage events this year?
