It was an awful crash; on every video I saw of it they cut away as his bike was barrelling towards him right after he smacked into the tire wall. He's a good guy, was a great guest on 2-wheel Tuesday not too long ago. I hope that the prognosis gets better as he heals a bit over the next week or two.

I guess the lesson would be "Let your bike do the crashing for you, not into you."?

It looked just like that crash a year or two back in world supersport where one of the bikes puked oil all over the track right before a high-speed right, and bike after bike shot off the track at full speed into the barrier, just missing the poor saps and cornerworkers that were already in the tire wall. Except this time, it didn't miss him... :(

I was just becoming a fan of his. He always seemed to be very fast on sub-factory machines, was a strong competitor and was destined for a factory seat. I also liked that he seemed genuinely thrilled to be racing for a living in the US. He was always smiling, laughing, and generally exuberant.
I'm surprised it was a lowside, given he was struck by the bike.
Anyway, I wonder what it's going to take to get hard barriers removed or airfenced. At some point, top riders will refuse to race here.
