Jonathan Rea set the fastest time in the morning's timed session, briefly ceding the top spot for five minutes to his teammate Tom Sykes early on in the session only to set progressively quicker laps throughout the remainder of the session. Alex Lowes sneaked into second place towards the end of the session, pushing Marco Melandri down to third quickest ahead of a resurgent Leon Camier. Tom Sykes, in fifth place, was the only other rider within half a second of Rea's quickest time with Chaz Davies and Loris Baz within two-thirds of a second sixth and seventh quickest respectively.
