[visordown.com] - Mallory Park's future in jeopardy
![]() A CRUCIAL meeting to decide Mallory park's future takes place tonight following years of complaints about noise from the circuit. Mallory Park is subject to an agreement dating back to 1985, which restricts its operations to 92 days a year. But residents living in Kirkby Mallory, the majority of which is just 500metres from the venue, have been informed that the track could be sold on to a housing developer if they do not agree to extended opening hours. Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council have proposed restrictions to the circuit which they say would allow the track to run activities for at least 210 days each year. 160 days is the minimum number of operating days if the circuit is to remain viable. John Ward, Mallory Park's general manager has a different story when it comes to the number of days the circuit can run events, "The council is deciding on the future of Mallory Park and if it agrees to reduce the days to 92, the circuit is finished and will shut. The 145 jobs in related businesses and £10.4 million benefit to the local economy will be lost, along with a historic motor-racing circuit." Circuit staff are hoping that 100 racing supporters will be attending tonight's public meeting at the Council Chambers. Chris Walker runs a race school at the venue and has confirmed his attendance. 'The Stalker' had his very first national win at Mallory Park and says closing it would "impact on the local businesses in the area." Each Chris Walker Race School event brings 150 people to the area. Chris continues, "Mallory has a huge heritage attached to the circuit, and is one of the most picturesque and spectator friendly tracks. There has been huge investment made to the track over the last year, it would be a massive loss to so many if the circuit was to close."
